What we do

Together we share expertise and knowledge about art market industry best practices and regulations

Through its internal organisation, LAFA deals with various topics and challenges that are directly impacting all stakeholders in the art market. The Association evaluate the existing situation of the sector in all its diversity. It aims to gather and anticipate any issue within the sector as well as to come up with appropriate responses. Their insights are passed on to the governing board. They are used to inform the association’s strategy. Drawing upon the collective wisdom and experience of its members, the governing body creates new consensual course of actions, leveraging their expertise to enact measures that resonate with the entire sector. By fostering collaboration and consensus-building, LAFA ensures that decisions are made with a deep understanding of the industry’s intricacies and challenges. Our Activities

Together we share expertise and knowledge about art transactions and management.

LAFA focuses on nurturing an environment of friendly exchange through the organisation of a rich and varied programme of activities where members can connect and share information. This includes several annual member meetings : an annual general assembly in spring, an end-of- year cocktail in winter, but also professional workshops and training sessions for our members on relevant themes such as legal and VAT regulations, available subsidies and more throughout the year. While most of our activities are exclusively for LAFA members, LAFA is committed to raising awareness of key issues and mechanisms shaping the Luxembourg and international art market.

The association also organise public conferences and talks where high-profile speakers from around the world debate on specific topics, introducing the public to general art market mechanisms or current issues and future challenges of the Luxembourg art market. Our most recent public conferences covered a large panel of thematics including Recent Art Market Trends (2021), Artwork transactions taxes in Luxembourg (2021), Next Gen Collectors, Artists and Sales Channels: How is art market changing (2022), Demystifying Due Diligence : For a Transparent Art Market (2023).

LAFA holds a privileged position with the Ministry of Culture, acting as a key advisor on matters concerning the art market, particularly the movement of cultural goods. Following the enactment of the law on cultural heritage in February 2022, LAFA was appointed as a member of the Commission for the Movement of Cultural Property, tasked with providing counsel to ministers on various aspects of movable cultural heritage, including its transfer, introduction, import, and export. Dr. Eric Perru, LAFA’s Vice-President and a lawyer, serves as an active member of the Commission, while Michel Giraud, LAFA’s President and a merchant, acts as an alternate member, representing the association and its members in discussions and decision-making processes.

By equipping our members, governing bodies and the Luxembourg public with essential knowledge and resources, we empower them to navigate the intricacies of the art market with confidence and expertise. These events also serve as vital forums for discussing market mechanisms, fostering collaboration, and driving innovation within the industry.
